At Ashton Dental we understand that going to the dentist may not be your preferred way to spend your time.
We do our best to ensure you are attended to efficiently by our understanding staff.
For nervous patients we offer a variety of sedation options including nitrous oxide (happy gas), oral sedation and general anaesthetic.
N2O2 Happy Gas
Nitrous Oxide also known as happy gas is a colourless gas with a pleasant taste and odour. It is inhaled through a soft mask and usually takes effect in about 5 minutes. Nitrous Oxide will not put you to sleep but will make you relaxed and less anxious. Patients feel normal and alert when the mask is removed although motor skills and attention can be affected for up to about 15 minutes. You should always have someone accompany you home after treatment.
For some people, the dentist may recommend a general anaesthetic. A general anaesthetic is given by a specialist anaesthetist. General anaesthetic may be advised for people who:
- Have wisdom teeth that may be a little more difficult to remove
- Do not want to remain awake during the surgery
- Small children who require multiple fillings
